I'm challenging the kids to read at least 150 minutes on their reading logs, since they will have so many extra days!! **If you haven't sent any snacks for a while, we are still needing some. We could also use some snack size ziploc baggies to put them in. Thanks in advance if you are able to send some in!! **We are also needing 2 regular sized bottles of hand sanitizer for the classroom. We would really appreciate it if someone could send some in!! **Don't forget to have your kids clean out their folder each night and give you any papers. Some of the notes are time sensitive and I often see them still in folders long after the date of the event has passed! **As next week is a two day week, there will be no spelling list/test. The list in your child's homework folder is for the test that will be the week after Thanksgiving break. Below are some pictures of some of the events of the past few weeks! We had a speaker talk with us about Veteran's Day and let us try on some gear!! We visited the traveling memorial wall in Leavenworth. We also had a really nice patriotic music program!! Enjoy :) Upcoming Events:
Tonight: Music program at 7:30 in the TES gym. Kids should arrive at 7:15 and go to the classroom. Please keep their coats with you as they will not be going back to the classroom after the concert! Enjoy the show!! Tomorrow - Friday, Oct 28th We will be leaving school around 8:30 and heading to Leavenworth to see the Vietnam Veteran's Moving Wall. Please remember to send a sack lunch if you did not sign up for a school lunch for the trip. Your child will probably need a jacket and comfortable clothes as we will be outside the entire morning. Tomorrow - Friday, Oct. 28th We will also be having our Halloween party tomorrow from 1:15-1:45. Please remember to send in the items you signed up for (if you signed up, I gave you a reminder at conferences!). You are welcome to attend the party if you'd like. It is short, but fun nevertheless! Classroom Notes: **Homework folders will always come home on Fridays and be due back to school on Wednesdays. Please remember to check over your child's work and have them correct any mistakes before the bring the folder back to school. The kids are getting some pretty low grades on homework pages because they are not asking someone to check them over for them. Homework assignments are always graded assignments that go in the gradebook. **Don't forget to send in your box tops! I am in need of someone who wouldn't mind counting up the box tops our class brings in. This could be done at home. They just need to be put in baggies in groups of 50. If you could help out with this please let me know. Thanks!! **Our library day is Tuesday. Please help your kiddo remember to bring their books back for checkout. There are open library times on other days if the kids finish a book and want to check out a new one, but the entire class goes to checkout on Tuesday. **If you haven't already seen it, please look in your child's folder for their behavior standards mid quarter progress report. Please sign the bottom of the paper and send the bottom portion back to school with your child. Your child's mid quarter grades are posted in Skyward, so please remember to log on and check out their grades. You can always contact me by email ([email protected]) or by phone during my plan time which is 9:05-10 on Mon., Tues., Thur., and Fri. I do not have a plan time on Wednesdays. If you email me after my plan time, it is likely I will not see it until after school, so please allow me a day to get back to you! Upcoming Events:
Wed., Sept 7th: Book orders coming home Friday, Sept. 9th: Grandparents Day from 1 - 2 PM Mon., Sept. 12th: Book orders due at school or online Friday, Sept. 16th: Homecoming Parade at 2 PM Mon., Sept. 19th: PTC meeting for everyone who would like to attend 7PM at TES Tues., Sept. 20th: Mid quarter I hope everyone had a fantastic Labor Day weekend! I will be testing each of the kids in reading this week and we will hopefully be able to start reading groups next week! Our new reading series is great, but pretty rigorous, so it will keep us very busy! Your kids are working hard and doing great! Notes: **Book orders will come home tomorrow. These are a great way to get the kids excited about reading and are usually pretty inexpensive! You are welcome to send back the order form with a check made out to Scholastic. You can also order online with our class code which is HW2K3. You make your selections and pay online. The books will come with our class order and I will send them home with your child. **Grandparents day is Friday from 1-2PM. You probably noticed on the notes sent home that K - 2 grades have a different time than the 3 - 5th grades, but I thought I'd point it out just in case you didn't! Remember it is perfectly fine for someone to fill in if a grandparent is unavailable. It is also fine not to have someone come in. We will be working on some group activities, so the kids can partner up with another group if they need to! Welcome to 5th Grade!!
It has been a lot of fun starting to get to know your children these first few days!! I can already tell it's going to be a wonderful year!! The kids are learning their new routines and have done a great job already of showing me what great listeners and learners they are :). A few things to note: 1. Thank you so much to everyone who has already sent in snacks for our snack basket. (If this doesn't sound familiar, check out the information on snack basket in the colored flip book you picked up at open house) If you haven't already, please try to send something in for our basket this week. You are welcome to send individual snacks or send bulk boxes that can be put in snack size bags. 2. Remember that homework folders will come home each Friday and will be due back at school the following Wednesday! Everyone remembered to bring their folder today. Wow! What an incredible group :). 3. If you would like to be a helper in the classroom, please let me know by sending me a note or an email in the next week so I can make up a schedule. We can always use help! Welcome to 5th Grade!!
